Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Cooper has welcomed council approval for a funding package of £15,000 for Christmas programmes across the five Neighbourhood renewal areas in Derry and Strabane.
This funding will allow the Neighbourhood renewal areas in Derry and Strabane to enjoy a full programme of Christmas events.
Councillor Cooper said
“I am delighted that the Business & Culture Committee have approved this allocation of funding and I look forward to it being ratified by full council. We were very successful during the City of Culture and the immediate legacy period in delivering Christmas events in community areas across the former Derry City Council areas. I have been working with council officials for some time now to identify funding opportunities for programmes in Derry and Strabane to allow these type of events to be repeated and this funding is the result of these negotiations.
It is vital that events are available in all community areas in both Derry and Strabane as a number of residents do not have the ability to access events in the centres of Derry and Strabane. Their inclusion will reduce isolation, build community confidence and also provide a platform to showcase local talent’.
