He was speaking after the issue was raised at the Regional Development Committee, the Foyle MLA said
“At the last meeting of the Regional Development Committee with the now former Roads Minister Danny Kennedy he said he was putting the final touches to the draft orders for the A5 upgrade project before bringing it to the Executive.
“Following the resignation of Danny Kennedy the committee met with the permanent secretary of the department who confirmed the decision on the draft orders has to be made by the minister.
“As a result of the former minister’s decision to step down for party political reasons, the A5 project is now in limbo.
“This is further proof that the Ulster Unionist Party are putting party politics before the needs of all the community and the economy.
“The A5 project is too important to be held hostage to the political infighting of the unionist parties.
“We will continue to push for this vital infrastructural project to go ahead as soon as possible and urge unionist ministers to return to their desks and do the jobs they were elected to do.”
