Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has called for action from the international community to prevent the forced displacement of thousands of Palestinians from their homes in east Jerusalem.
Martina Anderson said:
“Last week the Israeli Knesset passed legislation that could be used to forcibly displace thousands of Palestinians from their homes in East Jerusalem.
“This will undoubtedly lead to a rising of tensions in the area and represents a breach of international law.
“I have now written to the European Commission asking what action it intends to to take to protect the of Palestinians and ensure international law is upheld in the face of this unacceptable legislation.
“The international community, and the EU in particular, have a responsibility to act to defend the rights of the Palestinian people and to support efforts to secure a two-state solution in the region.” Ends/Críoch
