Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has welcomed news that three Palestinian prisoners who had been on hunger strike are to be released and she called for an end to administrative detention by the Israelis.
Ms Anderson said;
“I welcome news from Palestine that brothers Muhammad and Mahmoud Balboul and Malik Qadi who had been on hunger strike for 70 days have ended their fast and will be released.
“The three men, like hundreds of others, are being held under what Israel calls ‘administrative detention’. Here in Ireland we know it as internment.
“Sinn Féin opposed the use of internment here and opposes the use of administrative detention in Palestine.
“The international community must put pressure on Israel to end this affront to justice and call on the Israelis to release all prisoners currently held under administrative detention.”
