Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson has challenged the Education Minister over his failure to prioritise the construction of a 3G pitch at St. Joseph’s Boys School in Derry.
The Foyle MLA was commenting after receiving a ministerial response to her request for the project to be taken forward.
“The response from DUP Education Minister Peter Weir is disappointing to say the least,” Martina Anderson said.
“He has indicated that any progress on the pitch is ‘unlikely’ in the near future.
“This is despite the fact that the school has now been waiting six years on this investment.
“While I understand the budgetary pressures on all departments as a result of British Government austerity cuts, the fact remains that St. Joseph’s were promised this pitch in 2014 and the minister should be prioritising it, particularly in the context of the health and well-being of our young people.” Críoch/Ends
