Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has passed her congratulations onto the people of Denmark following their rejection of adopting EU rules on cross-border policing.
“A yes vote in this referendum could have seen more and more power being transferred from the Danish parliament to the EU without the population being asked but with all votes now counted, more than 53% said No to the proposals.
“The Yes campaigners recognized that although they need to find international solutions to international crime, the climate crisis and not least to find a solution based on solidarity to tackle the current refugee crisis. But the cooperation should always be based on democracy and local decision-making.
“I therefore congratulate our Danish comrades and look forward to continue working together with them in an attempt to tackle these international issues.” ENDS
