Anderson welcomes Derry greenway funding

Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson has welcomed the announcement of over £1.2million for Greenways in the Derry and Strabane area.

The Foyle MLA stated:

“I welcome the announcement today from the department to finally co-fund the Strathfoyle greenway.

“Sinn Féin representatives have been pushing hard for the expansion of safe walking and cycling infrastructure in Derry, and it is a great relief that this vital funding has finally been committed by the department.

“Fundamentally, this greenway will finally provide a new walking and cycling route linking Strathfoyle to the City Centre.

“Today’s announcement is also credit to the work that the local community in Strathfoyle and others have put into this project.

“This greenway will help more people take up active travel and avail of health and environmental benefits, while also being a boost to local tourism.

“If we’re serious about also encouraging cycling as a mode of travel, we need the right infrastructure in place that makes people feel safe to do so.
