Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson has welcomed confirmation that the A6 Derry to Belfast road upgrade is expected to finish as planned in 2022, despite the impact of the Covid pandemic.
The Foyle MLA was commenting after raising the issue with the Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon.
Martina Anderson said: “I welcome the minister’s confirmation that, despite the impact of the pandemic and the ongoing need for social distancing, productivity levels on the A6 scheme remain very high.
“The minister also confirmed that she hopes to see the Randalstown to Castledawson section finished next year, with the Dungiven to Drumahoe scheme completing in 2022, largely as planned.
“That is good news for the thousands of people who use the A6 every day and for the wider north west economy given the importance of connectivity with Belfast.
“As Sinn Féin regional inequalities spokesperson, I have been consistently outlining the need for proper road infrastructure to Derry, and I will continue to closely monitor the progress of this vital project.”
