Appeal for child Asthma sufferers to use inhalers before return to school

Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Councillor Patricia Logue has urged parents who have children suffering from Asthma to ensure that they are using their inhalers regularly before returning to school.

She made her call following a warning from the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) that there is a rise in the number of hospital admissions in September each year from children suffering from Asthma.

Councillor Logue said “The RCN has said that there is a rise in the number of Asthma-related hospital admissions among school age children during the month of September each year.

“This may be due to children’s routines being often disrupted by changes in sleeping habits during the school holidays.

“The changes in the weather and exposure to new coughs and colds when they return to school, leaves them more at risk of asthma attacks.

“I would appeal to parents to heed the RCN call that children with asthma should be reminded to use their inhalers regularly before returning to school.
