Sinn Féin Waterside Councillor Christopher Jackson has appealed for illegal dumping in the Top of the Hill area of the city to stop.
Councillor Jackson said
I am appealing for a community response to help tackle the dumping within our community. Dumping in the Top of the Hill is becoming a major problem over recent years, with bags of household waste being dumped at street corners on a weekly basis.
This is not only an eyesore for everyone living in the area; it also poses an environmental health risk with the rubbish attracting mice and rats. This needs to stop and to stop it we need everyone to take pride in our community and dispose of their waste responsibly.
Every household should have both a black and blue bin, unfortunately in many cases throughout the district it is not the case. In conjunction with the Council and Hillcrest House we are carrying out a survey to try and determine who doesn’t have either a black or blue bin and where possible we will provide bins.
Concluding he said
Anyone caught fly tipping bags of rubbish could face a fine of up to £1000. I would urge anyone without either bin to contact Hillcrest House on 02871347515 or contact myself to ensure that everyone in the area has the facilities to manage their waste and bring an end to the dumping on our streets.
