Ballymagroarty vandalism condemned –McGinley

Sinn Féin Councillor Eric McGinley has called on parents to ensure their children are not involved in recent burning incidents in Ballymagroarty.

Cllr. McGinley said: “Over the past two nights teenagers have set alight material at the entrance to the Pennyburn Credit Union and on the main road through Ballymagroarty.   Youngsters have also been able to access the main switchbox and have disrupted power to the street light system in the area.

Residents in Ballymagroarty are understandably angry at these recent incidents of vandalism and I would appeal to parents to ensure they are aware of their children’s whereabouts, particularly late at night.

I have been in contact with Street Lighting requesting that the main switchboxes in the area are properly secured as quickly as possible.   I would also appeal to local businesses to ensure that any materials which can be taken to be burned are properly stored out of reach.”
