Sinn Féin Councillor Michaela Boyle has been elected as Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council for 2019/2020.
Speaking after last nights Council meeting, Cllr Boyle said:
“It’s an honour to be elected as Mayor of the Derry City and Strabane District.
“I will be a representative for everyone across our communities, promoting equality and inclusivity.
“One of my key priorities is to continue the work of our MPs in developing and transforming the north west region to deliver upon the Strategic Growth Deal and secure additional financial assistance from both governments and the EU.
“The economic potential of the north west region has not yet been realised. We need to build on the foundations of existing collaborations in health, education and infrastructure.
“It’s vital that key projects such as the A5, the expansion of the Magee campus, the medical school, the Riverine and other projects are delivered in order to open up the entire north-west region and bring the benefits on an all-island basis.” Críoch/Ends
