British government must legislate for HIA victims and survivors – McCartney

Sinn Féin Justice spokesperson  MLA Raymond McCartney has welcomed news that an advocate is set to be appointed for victims and survivors of historical institutional abuse.

The Foyle  MLA said:

“I welcome news that Brendan McAllister is set to be appointed as the advocate for victims and survivors of historical institutional abuse.

“This advocate will lobby on behalf of victims and survivors giving them an additional voice in their ongoing campaign for compensation and redress from the British government.

“It’s important that once in position, the new advocate meets with victims and survivors at the earliest opportunity.

“While this move is welcome, Karen Bradley must now end the stalling by immediately bringing forward legislation for the needs of victims and survivors of historical institutional abuse.

“Sinn Féin will continue to stand with victims and survivors of historical institutional abuse.”
