Sinn Féin MLA Martin McGuinness has said the British government must live up to its responsibilities to address outstanding issues of the Good Friday and other agreements.
Speaking after meeting with British Secretary of State James Brokenshire, Mr McGuinness said;
“I met with the British secretary of state James Brokenshire today to discuss the current situation and the British government’s failure to deal with legacy and other outstanding issues.
“I also reminded him that the British government’s failure to live up to its responsibilities on the Bill of Rights, equality issues and the Irish language had contributed to the current political crisis.
“I told him that public confidence in the political institutions has been seriously damaged as a result of the RHI scandal and that Arlene Foster needed to stand aside, without prejudice, to allow for an independent investigation to be carried out.”
