Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney has said Theresa May and her Tory government need to recognise that the people of the North voted to remain in the EU.
“It simply doesn’t make sense for Theresa May to claim that leaving the EU is good for the people of the North when the reality tells a different story.
“The economic uncertainty brought about by Brexit will do long-term damage to trade and exports and the impact of that will be most keenly felt in border areas.
“It would have a hugely detrimental effect on our agriculture and agri-food industries both in terms of EU funding and access to markets.
“Our universities would suffer, including those currently engaged in cutting edged research into cancer, and it could also limit opportunities for our students and young people.
“Instead of peddling the narrative of the Brexiteers Theresa May and the British government need to recognise that the majority of people in the North voted to remain in the EU and respect that vote.”
