Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney has described British Government policy in regards Brexit as without direction or vision.
“The British Government’s policy approach to Brexit is bouncing up and down like the British pound and would be hilarious if it were not so serious.
“Brexit is a bad policy, Sinn Féin’s position is clear, the North voted to remain and that vote should be respected.
“There is only one thing worse than a bad policy and that is a bad policy being badly implemented.
“The British Government were steadfast in their opposition to Westminster having no role on voting on the terms of Brexit, now the British Government are going to allow Westminster to have a vote on Brexit.
“The British Government were going to stop paying into the EU budget once they left the EU. Now well informed sources say this is not the case and they will continue to pay into the EU budget to have access to the Single Market.
Concluding Raymond McCartney said:
“Bad policy being badly implemented is damaging the economy and people’s lives on both sides of the border.
“Uncertainty is thwarting investment and jobs. Brexit is already affecting household budgets as anyone who has recently ordered home heating oil will realise.
“If England and Wales want to leave the EU, they should get on with it and leave the rest of us with some semblance of stability.”
