Sinn Féin Foyle MEP Martina Anderson said the latest suggestion from the British government about their approach to Brexit reveals once again the people of the North and the island of Ireland are nothing but collateral damage to the British government.
Martina Anderson said:
“A proposal to levy ‘skilled EU workers’ £1000 is another example of Whitehall knowing or caring little or nothing about the reality if life in the North or Ireland.
“We on the Island of Ireland are European Union citizens. After Brexit those who carry Irish passports will still be EU citizens, are we to be levied?
“The reality is tens of thousands of people cross the British border in Ireland everyday to work and run business in the North. Or they to be levied?
“Brexit is a British problem being imposed on the people of Ireland against the wishes of the people of Ireland.
“The British government’s so-called Brexit plans have no relevance or mandate here and they need to respect the ballot box and level Ireland north and south in the EU.”
