Sinn Fein Councillor Tony Hassan is calling on the Roads minister Danny Kennedy and Transport NI to upgrade the Buncrana Road now into the four lanes of traffic that was promised rather than wait until the scheduled 2018/2020 time line.
“While welcoming any plans to make the Buncrana Road a safer place for road users, pedestrians and local residents Transport NI should begin an immediate upgrade of the Buncrana road area.
As a major arterial route connecting Derry with Donegal the Buncrana Road is not capable of taking the volume of traffic that use it on a daily basis and with the other major developments that have taken place on the Skeoge Road, Culmore Roundabout and the widening of the Madams Bank Road only adds argument for upgrading the Buncrana Road.
All the problems that face the Buncrana Road at the junctions of the Collon, Woodbrook, and Whitehouse areas and the entrance to shopping area at the Branch Roundabout can all be sorted by the upgrade that should have been in place years ago.
“As the public representative for the greater Shantallow area I would again call on Transport NI(Road Service) and the Minister Danny Kennedy to complement the Skeoge Link by starting the upgrade of Buncrana Road.
