Burke praises efforts of community workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sinn Féin councillor Tina Burke has praised the efforts of community workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Councillor Burke said:
“Over the last year the community and voluntary sector have gone above and beyond to meet the challenges of the pandemic and to support local communities.
“We witnessed the community & voluntary sector hitting the ground running in terms of the work around the community responses and initiatives that were set up to ensure those most vulnerable were protected.
“As well as community groups, communities themselves rallied together to deliver food and supplies and support those who were isolating.
“Thousands of people across this city and district got supported in some way from the Community & Voluntary sector through various initiatives and programmes.
“They are the backbone and lifeblood of our communities.
“It is important we recognise the crucial work the community and voluntary sector have done and are continuing to do over the last year as they help local communities.”
