Sinn Féin Councillor Eric McGinley has described as reckless the stoning of a Translink bus on Ringfort Road.
Cllr. McGinley said: “On Tuesday afternoon two windows on a Translink service bus were broken as it travelled along Ringfort Road. It was only through good fortune that no-one was seriously hurt and this stoning incident led to the service being partially withdrawn.
There are indications that the group responsible could have been as young as 10 years old and highlights the necessity of parents and guardians being fully aware of the whereabouts and actions of their children.
It is ironic that this incident took place in an area which only last weekend hosted a very successful community event which included a parade and fun day.
Community activists and youth workers have some indication as to the identity of the youngsters involved in this reckless behaviour and will be bringing this information forward to the relevant agencies and – in particular – to the parents and guardians.
Children need to be made aware of the potentially life threatening implications of their actions and there should be no reluctance in raising this issue with the families concerned.”
