Sinn Féin Councillor Kevin Campbell has been in touch with Transport NI in regards to the provision of grit and salt boxes in Ballymagowan.
Ballymagowan is one of Derry’s largest new developments and has a very steep road going into it which brings its own problems during the winter months.
Councillor Campbell said
“Winter is now on us and we all know the problems encountered in communities once snow and ice appears.
I was contacted by a number of residents in Ballymagowan at the weekend concerned about gritting of the entrance into the development.
There is a very steep road going up into the estate and they wanted me to ensure that there was provision of stocked grit boxes there over the next few months. It would help reduce the likelihood of accidents, slips and falls and keep the roads clear for the emergency services.
I have been in touch with Transport NI and asked them to look at grit/salt provision in Ballymagowan to avert such situations.
