Sinn Féin Councillor Kevin Campbell has called on those who are illegally dumping on the Glassagh Road to desist immediately and have respect for the local community and the environment.
“I was contacted on Boxing day by residents who were furious at the amount of rubbish that has been dumped on the Glassagh Road over the Christmas period. I went to the area and was shocked to see the amount of rubbish dumped at the side of the road. In one pile there were two fridges one of them is an industrial fridge normally used by a business. Directly across the road someone else dumped a mattress and household rubbish. These items would have had to be transported to the area in a van because of their size and bulk. And for the value of a few minutes extra on their journey they could have taken them to the recycling plant in the Brandywell where Derry City Council would have disposed of them.
“I would appeal to people to desist from this practice immediately and have a bit of respect for the local community and the environment. Creggan is not a dumping ground and this type of behaviour will not be tolerated”.
