Sinn Féin Councillor Colly Kelly said 
“Once again another area of the city has been targeted by criminals.
I would like to make an urgent appeal to residents in the Bogside area to a take a few extra security measures following a number of opportunist break-ins and attempted thefts of cars on Wednesday night/Thursday morning.
Cars and outhouses were targeted in William Street, Colmcille Court and the Abbey Street area.
I have spoken to one family who had a considerable amount of damage caused to their car in an attempt to steal it.
I would urge extra vigilance from residents over the next few weeks and if they see anyone acting suspiciously to alert their neighbours and to contact police straight away.
