Sinn Féin Councillor Sandra Duffy has urged all the agencies involved in securing gates for Madams Bank Road Tunnel to also look at the introduction of gates at similar hotspots at tunnels located at Collon Lane and Carnhill.
“There is much relief that the gates have finally been installed at Madams Bank Road” Councillor Duffy said
“All the political parties, communities groups in this area along with residents, the Council, PSNI and statutory agencies have been working very hard to try and find workable solutions to resolve problems being encountered at this underpass for many years.
I would now call on all those involved in this process to set up a similar initiative to address similar issues at the other two tunnels at Carnhill and Collon lane. The problems being encountered at these tunnels has been well covered in the local press over recent years and residents have been in touch with me again this week calling for action.
Gates will not solve all the issues but would go a long way to help reduce much of the anti-community activity which has blighted this area.
