Councillor Jackson said “There is a concern in the community that there has been an increase in the number of burglaries in the Waterside over recent weeks and would urge people to be vigilant especially now as we approach the dark evenings.

In light of these recent break-ins I would appeal to residents to take a few minutes each night to ensure their property has been locked and valuables are stored securely out of sight.

The physiological effect a burglary has on a family or a someone trying to run a small business can far outweigh any financial loss that they may suffer . I would urge communities to look out for each other and report any suspicious activity to the PSNI.

As families are preparing for Christmas, more and more people have cash in their homes in the form of Christmas savings. I would appeal to everyone to lodge any savings in their bank or credit union as soon as possible and avoid keeping large sums of money stored at home.
