Good progress continues to be made on the development of Derry’s planned maritime museum which will be game-changing for the city’s tourism potential, Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson has said.
The Foyle MLA was commenting after meeting with officials from TourismNI to discuss the project.
She said: “My meeting with TourismNI came in the wake of confirmation I received in the Assembly that both the Executive Office and Department for Communities are committed to supporting the proposed new museum at Ebrington which will tell the story of Derry using a strong maritime theme.
“Its crucial that TourismNI is also committed to backing the project given its potential to not only increase footfall and visitor spend at Ebrington but to create a state of the art heritage facility which will undoubtedly attract more visitors to the city and wider north west region.
“I am pleased that the response from TourismNI was very positive. As the leading tourism agency in the north, I have now asked TourismNI to liaise with the various project funders and to work with all other partners to deliver this game changing investment for the city.”
