Sinn Féin Councillor Christopher Jackson is to bring a motion before Derry City and Strabane District council this week calling on the Council to affirm its support for the Palestinian people, that the Council affirms its support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Campaign.
And that the Council investigates the most practical means of implementing this BDS Campaign.
Councillor Christopher Jackson said
Anyone who cares about civil and human rights must take a clear stand to defend the right to advocate for the BDS campaign as a matter of conscience and free speech and a nonviolent means for society to support the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people.
If we want to support the Palestinian people then we need to develop a Divestment, Boycott, Sanctions campaign in Derry and Strabane ,and in every city, town and village across Ireland. The South African experience has showed us that we have to hit apartheid regimes economically, culturally and diplomatically in order for them to take notice.
