Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Fleming has said a no-deal Brexit will have a dire impact on haulage services.
He said “There is grave concern from transport services at what a crash Brexit will mean for their sector including shortage of drivers, unfair competition and inadequate road maintenances.
“Brexit will impact on the delivery of services, and haulage is no exception as the potential of a hard border will seriously affect access to the marketplace.
“The height of no-deal preparations made by the British Government is the issuing of permits to allow hauliers to drive inside the EU, with the north only receiving 60 permits.
“This is absolutely absurd and inadequate given that 6,000 heavy goods vehicles cross the border every day.
“This is just another example of the British government’s disregard for the north’s economy while they prepare to drag the north out of the EU.”
