Elisha McCallion, Foyle MP, and fan of hit-series ‘Derry Girls’, has today said the show’s runaway success is shining a unique and positive light on City of Derry.
The Sinn Féin MP said:
“Every week well over a million people are tuning in to watch a good-natured comedy about my native city. When I travel throughout Ireland, and to London, the reaction of people to the show’s portrayal of Derry is uniquely positive.
“This success is shining a positive light on the rich cultural heritage of Derry City, while raising the profile of our city, sure to encourage tourism and engagement.
“I would like to congratulate and commend Lisa McGee, the show’s creator and a Derry native, for her achievement and immensely positive contribution in bringing Derry to an international audience on a Thursday night.”
