Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney has said the relatives of those killed in the Loughinisland massacre are entitled to know the truth about the death of their loved ones.
Speaking following a Q+A with the Loughlinisland Campaign held in Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin on Saturday afternoon., the Foyle MLA said;
“On June 18, 1994, loyalist gunmen burst into the Heights Bar in Loughinisland and indiscriminately opened fire killing six men who were watching Ireland play Italy in the World Cup.
“This disgraceful attack not only shocked people in the local area, but throughout Ireland and across the world.
“To compound the awful brutality of the attack, it soon emerged that the UVF gunmen responsible for the murders were linked to British security forces.
“There was clear collusion in the planning and carrying out of the attack. The RUC also attempted to deny justice to the relatives of those killed by destroying evidence and covering up the truth.
“Twenty three years on the families are still campaigning for truth and are still being frustrated.
“The families of those killed at Loughinisland deserve justice and we will continue to support them in their campaign.”
