Chairperson of Ógra Shinn Féin Michael McCrossan said
“We were struck by the deep hurt in the Muslim community at comments made this week which have been well publicised in the local media.
We felt it was important to hold this event in Derry to show our solidarity with the Muslim community in the wake of the offensive and insulting comments being made.
Martin McGuinness has said that the Executive and political leaders need to stand shoulder to shoulder with all those who have been victims of racist intimidation and attacks.
It’s imperative that all of us in positions of responsibility are unambivalent in our stance against prejudice, bigotry, racism and intolerance.”
