Encouraging women’s participation and representation during the Assembly Women’s Week
“I welcome the fact Assembly Speaker Mitchel McLaughlin has hosted the first Assembly Women’s Week.
“This is one of a number of events taking place around International Women’s Day in order to celebrate the role of women in public life and encourage more participation.
“Sinn Féin has consistently highlighted the importance of women in politics and three of our four MEPs are women, three out of our five ministers in the Assembly are women and over 40 per cent of our candidates in elections north and south are women.
“It is vitally important we encourage more women into politics and participate in the democratic process and events like this, will help towards achieving that.”
