Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney has said international diplomacy, not bombing is required to resolve the conflict in Syria.
“The British military intervention in Syria is a mistake.
“It will unfortunately only add to the cycle of violence gripping the country and indeed further afield.
“It will further impact on many civilians, for instance in Raqqa who are used in essence as human shields by groups such as ISIS increasing casualties and indeed exacerbating the refugee crisis.
“David Cameron should address his government supply of arms to Saudi Arabia who subsequently armed groups linked to ISIS in Syria, he should ask why his NATO ally Turkey continue to buy oil from ISIS and investigate which banks are facilitating these transactions.
“What we need to see is an intensified international diplomatic effort to resolve this conflict, not an intensified bombing campaign.”
