Sinn Féin Councillor Sandra Duffy has raised concerns about large groups of young people gathering in the Culmore area at the weekends .
She said concerned residents contacted her with complaints that over 100 young people were congregating in a football field adjacent to Culmore Point over past two weekends.
Councillor Duffy said “I was contacted on Friday night by residents concerned that a large group of young people ranging in ages from 12-18 had gathered in a football field at Culmore Point. A number of fires were lit causing damage to the pitch.
“They were from right across the city and whilst it is not unique that young people will gather at places at the weekends the size of the crowd unsettled residents. There are also concerns about the safety and well-being of the young people.
“I immediately contacted the neighbourhood policing team and the wardens to report the situation.
“Local people are working night and day trying to bring new facilities into Culmore the last thing we want to see is what little facilities that are currently in place being destroyed.
