Sinn Féin councillor Sandra Duffy has welcomed Executive funding for Derry City and Strabane District Council during the COVID-19 crisis.
Sandra Duffy said:
“A report sent to councillors from all parties last week by council officers outlined that Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC) were expecting to receive around £2million pounds of Coronavirus related financial support arising from bids to a number of Stormont government departments.
“It is my understanding that the council bid for £1.5million of support from the Dept of Communities funding pot and has received £1.3m from the department.
“This is part of the excellent work Minister Deirdre Hargey has done supporting local authorities at this difficult time.
“Some however, have tried to diminish this by wrongly claiming that Council has applied for more from this Department but had not received it.
“Council should now confirm publicly the nature of the bid to the department of Communities and other departments in order to clarify the situation.”
