Sinn Féin MLA for Foyle Raymond McCartney has said that Paul Frew’s assertion that if you live in the north of Ireland you are British whether someone “likes it or not” is further evidence of DUP disrespect to Irish identity.
Speaking today Raymond McCartney said:
“The refusal of DUP MLA Paul Frew to acknowledge Irish identify is indicative of the DUP’s arrogance and disrespect.
“His insistence on that whether someone “likes it or not” if they live in the north of Ireland they are British is arrogant and insulting in the extreme.
“The Good Friday Agreement enshrines “parity of esteem and…just and equal treatment for the identity, ethos, and aspirations of both communities.”, alongside the ‘right to hold both British and Irish citizenship’.
“Paul Frew would do well to take note this and afford people the respect they deserve.”
