Speaking at the launch of this year’s Eamon (Bronco)Bradley Denis Heaney summer cup tournament,
Martin Mc Gilloway the organizer of the competition said that this year only 8 teams will be invited to take part in the competition and it will be 11 a side at the big pitch at Leafair.
Martin Mc Gilloway also said that the committee would like to thank Martin Sheehan of the Celtic bar for the sponsorship of the competition and that letters of invite will be sent out by the 10th of June.
The competition is open to all players with a prize fund of £1,000 and the first game will be played on Thursday 10th July 2014
The tournament has been run in the Shantallow area of the city in memory of Eamon (Bronco) Bradley and Denis Heaney and is considered by many in the city as the premier summer cup completion.
The crowds that regularly turn up at the Leafair pitches shows that this competition can still pull big attendances and this year will be no different.
The committee said closing date for entry is Friday 5th July and the Final will be played on Friday the 25th July.
Peter McDonald of the Leafair Community Association and the manager of Leafair 3g pitches has welcomed this year’s tournament and said that the competition over the last years seen some great players the likes of James Mc Clean and Paddy Mc Court amongst others who regularly played in the tournament and has wished the organisers of the competition all the best.
