ELECTIONS 2011
Sinn Féin aims to become the biggest nationalist party in Derry and to take a third Assembly seat in the May 5th elections.
That was the message from Martin McGuinness as Sinn Féin's candidates Martina Anderson, Raymond McCartney and Paul Fleming submitted their nomination papers on Wednesday.
"This election will be fought and won on the doorsteps; it will be about engaging ordinary people on the most vital things that affect their everyday lives - jobs, health, education and infrastructure," Mr. McGuinness said.
"We are campaigning against the British Tory-led government's cuts to the north's block grant and public services, and for the transfer of economic powers from London to the Executive.
"Sinn Féin are proud of our record in this constituency. Sinn Féin Minister Conor Murphy is delivering an unprecedented level of investment - £1billion - in the North West's infrastructure including the A5 & A6 roads.
"We fought for and delivered the Project Kelvin Telehouse. We delivered unprecedented investment in the Derry schools estate. Sinn Féin MLA's have led the campaign to expand Magee University and delivered considerable progress.
"We have been a driving force behind Derry's regeneration process - ensuring that jobs and opportunities for our citizens will be a central outcome. Sinn Féin Minister Michelle Gildernew has delivered £18.5 million investment into the North West rural economy.
"And I have given my personal guarantee that the cancer unit at Altnagelvin will be delivered as planned during the term of the new Assembly.
"That is the kind of real leadership and real change which we have delivered in the past four years. We are asking the people of Foyle to endorse that record on May 5th and to help us continue the process of positive change by returning an even stronger Sinn Féin team - including a third seat in Derry.
