Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Fleming has welcomed the announcement of an extra £600,000 earmarked for rural transport.
“Sinn Féin has consistently raised this issue at the Department of Regional Development Committee so I am delighted the Minister has listened and announced an extra £600,000 for rural transport.
“Rural transport is a vital lifeline for vulnerable people in rural areas and in some cases is their only connection to the outside world.
“Public transport doesn’t extend into many isolated areas with low population density and rural transport is the only form of public transport that is available to them.
“This extra money will bring the total spend to over £5.5m and will allow many service providers to continue to make rural transport accessible and affordable.
“It is crucial we continue to maintain a high level of rural transport infrastructure so people living in these communities can have access to towns and cities to access services like shopping, health and education.”
