I have been contacted by a number of housing executive tenants concerned that their rents are set to rise by just under 5% a week.

People are saying how on earth they could be facing a rent rise when in the past  they have heard  media reports the Housing Executive has handed back  an estimated £40 Million   pounds they couldn’t spend in a financial year.

Locally I have very serious concerns about the number of people currently facing difficulties with their rent and mortgages. Many people are finding themselves unemployed for the first time or having their hours at work reduced which impacts on their weekly income .It can be several months before people get all the benefits and help they are entitled which in turn has a knock-on effect in their ability to pay their housing costs and is causing major financial hardship.

I would encourage anyone facing problems with their rent or mortgage to go and seek straight away.
