Fears over increase of young people using drugs Ballymagroarty area-McGinley

Sinn Féin Councillor Eric McGinley has expressed concern at the increase in young people using drugs in the Ballymagroarty area.

Councillor McGinley said: “It has been brought to my attention recently that there is increasing evidence that youngsters are visibly under the influence of narcotic substances in Ballymagroarty.   There have also been a number of occasions where the paraphernalia of drug taking in the shape of bongs is being found around the estate.

Apart from the potential harm to which young people are exposing themselves through drug taking there has also been an accompanying rise in anti-community and criminal behaviour with houses and vehicles being broken into.

I have asked the local Outer West Community Safety Team to examine this serious situation and to discuss what measures can be implemented to safeguard the welfare of young people and to spare the wider Ballymagroarty community any further inconvenience.”
