First responders should be protected -McCartney

Sinn Féin Foyle  MLA Raymond McCartney  has said protections contained in the Justice Bill for ambulance staff should be extended to first responders.

Raymond McCartney  said; City centre walkabout

“I welcome the fact that ambulance staff will be afforded more protections from attacks under the terms of the Justice Bill.

“There should be zero tolerance to attacks on paramedics. They provide an essential and literally life-saving service to all of the community.

“Increasingly, first responders, particularly those with defibrillators are a key part of the life-saving services.

“They often arrive before paramedic crews and have saved countless lives.

“As key life-saving services, first responders should be given the same protection as ambulance crews.

“Sinn Féin  raised this issue during the debate on the Justice Bill in the Assembly and will be following it up with the Justice Minister.”
