Fleming attends meeting on Prehen Boathouse future

Sinn Féin councillor Paul Fleming has welcomed progress on the redevelopment of Prehen Boathouse.

Speaking after attending a meeting between representatives of Foyle Paddlers, City of Derry Rowing Club and Derry City Council officials at the boathouse on Tuesday, colr. Fleming said;
“Members of Foyle Paddlers and City of Derry Rowing Club met with representatives of Derry City Council to discuss the future use of Prehen boathouse.
“Both clubs had concerns about the future of the boathouse and raised those concerns with Council officers.
Foyle Paddlers and City of Derry Rowing Club do great work in getting young people involved in healthy sporting activities and in opening up the potential of the river.
“That has been particularly evident this week with their involvement in the Legenderry Maritime Festival.
“The meeting was positive and Council officers updated the members that new funding opportunities are being actively pursued which, if successful, would hopefully secure the long term future of the facility.
“I am calling on the Department of Social Development to provide funding for the redevelopment of the boathouse to ensure modern facilities for both of these clubs as well as opening it up to wider use.
“The Prehen boathouse has a great deal of potential and its redevelopment would assist the regeneration of the city’s waterfront.”
