Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has said Arlene Foster and the DUP can’t dictate when the people have their say on an Irish unity referendum.
The Foyle MLA was responding to Arlene Foster’s comments at her party’s Election Manifesto launch today.
“Arlene Foster and the DUP are running scared of public opinion on an Irish unity referendum.
“Arlene Foster and the DUP can’t wish away the right of the people to have their say on Irish unity.
“Her comments today are another example of the arrogance and contempt the DUP have for the electorate.
“The Good Friday Agreement contains provision for a referendum on Irish unity and that cannot be put to the side by the DUP.
“Sinn Féin has called for a referendum on unity to be held within the next five years and support for that position is growing.”
