Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney said ‘Good Relations Week’ is an opportunity to showcase the diversity that exists across Irish society.
The Foyle MLA said:
“20 years after the Good Friday Agreement Good Relations Week provides an opportunity to showcase all that we have achieved in promoting cultural diversity.
“The Ireland of today is one of change, we are now a rainbow of colours and diversity.
“But as a society we must do more to promote equality of opportunity for everyone regardless of race, nationality or what language they choose to speak.
“Ethnic minority groups and organisations need to be adequately funded and a clear strategy put in place to educate people and help create community awareness of other cultures.
“Sinn Féin is a party committed to the equality and human rights. We believe that all citizens regardless of race, nationality or disability should be treated as equals.
“I would encourage people to attend Good Relations events and continue to promote cultural diversity throughout this week.”
