Hassan calls for clarity on gritting policy of city centre car parks

Sinn Féin Transport spokesperson Councillor Tony Hassan has called on Transport NI (formerly known as Roads Service) to clarify its policy on gritting its car parks during cold spells.???????????????????????????????

He made his comments following being contacted by users of the car parks in the city  who said they felt the  surface of the car parks were  at times dangerous with snow and ice.

Councillor Tony Hassan said “Everyone has been trying to deal with the all the various aspects that the current bad weather has caused particularly with the snow and ice and all the dangers that presents on our roads, footpaths and laneways.

I have been contacted by several people in the city who have used a number of car parks during this time and they have brought to me their concerns about the slippery surfaces in several of these car parks.

I am calling on Transport NI (formerly known as Roads Service) to clarify its policy on gritting its car parks during cold spells. These car parks are used by hundreds of people daily and they may not be a key priority when trying to keep our roads open but none the less it important  that they are included in whatever plan the  agencies use during extreme weather conditions.
