Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Councillor Tony Hassan has called on Housing Associations in Derry to advise tenants that a Stormont welfare mitigation package will cancel out the bedroom tax.
He said:
“I would ask the housing associations in Derry to tell tenants that the bedroom tax in the north will be cancelled out by the Executive’s welfare mitigation package.
“Sinn Féin fought for mitigation measures that made bedroom tax redundant in the North and these measures were passed by the Executive.
“Any shortfall to housing benefit as a result of the introduction of the ‘bedroom tax’ will be calculated and mitigated automatically.
“Anyone with any concerns can call into their local Sinn Féin Office.”
