Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin has called on the Department of Health to improve waiting times for people waiting for neurological appointments.
“An estimated 34,000 people here suffer from a long-term neurological condition.
“I am well aware of the lengthy waiting times throughout the health service, from GP appointments to consultant referrals.
“More people are waiting longer in neurology than in any other service. In fact 65% of people in the North are waiting longer than 18 weeks for their first appointment with a neurologist.
“An extra £40 million was announced recently to tackle waiting lists and this will allow for treatment to be progressed across a range of services, including neurology.
“I urge the Department to deliver on its plans to improve neurological services and implement the all the Transforming Your Care proposals on long term conditions as quickly as possible in order to help the many people with neurological conditions.”
