Sinn Féin’s Elisha McCallion has there can be no place in society for violence against women.
Speaking on ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’ the Foyle candidate said:
“Women across the world are facing sexual, mental and physical violence.
“Sexual violence affects women and their families in terms of health, welfare, finance, and legal standing.
“We need to move to a position of zero tolerance within society where all incidents of domestic abuse are reported and the perpetrator brought before the courts.
“I would encourage everyone to get involved in the 16 days of activism and attend as many of the events as possible so that we can highlight the injustices against women not only in Ireland but across the globe.
“It is also vitally important that anyone suffering from abuse whether physical or emotional knows that there are organisations, who are just a phone call away and ready to help. No one should suffer in silence.” ENDS/CRÍOCH
