Sinn Féin Councillor Christopher Jackson has welcomed the reopening of the Sports Hardship Fund by Communities Minister Caral Ni Chuilin.
The Waterside Councillor said:
“This is now the third time that Communities Minister Caral Ni Chuilin has opened the Sports Hardship Fund to provide financial support to sports clubs.
“With limited finance raising opportunities, sports clubs have been particularly hard hit by the COIVD19 pandemic.
“This funding will help sports clubs with their facility costs, equipment and cleaning costs.
“Sports clubs play a hugely significant role in local communities and we must do all we can to protect sports clubs during this time of uncertainty.
“First time applicants to the Sports Hardship Fund can apply for funding up to £2,000, while previous applicants can apply for £1,000.
“I urge all sporting clubs in Derry and Strabane who are struggling as a consequence of the COVID19 pandemic to avail of this invaluable fund.”
